One thing I learned pretty early in life is that speakers are not meant to be wired together in a haphazard manner. In fact, whenever you plan to connect more than two speakers to a two-channel amplifier — or more than four speakers to a four-channel amp — there are a few things to consider, not the least of which is the amps ability to handle low-impedance loads. Ignoring the basics is like playing Russian roulette with your amplifier: If youre lucky, itll drive the speakers without incident; if youre not, the amp will fry. The great thing about a multiple-speaker hookup is that once you master only two basic wiring procedures — “series” and “parallel” — the world is yours to conquer. When you know how many speakers youre going to use and the impedance driving capability of your amplifier, youll be able to select a wiring scheme that will deliver the best sonic and electrical results. In some cases, it may not be one procedure or the other but a combination of the two that works best.

How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own. So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system. AV receivers feature bass management to direct the low bass frequencies to the sub and the midrange and treble frequencies to the speakers.

I use these stores. I can’t vouch for ads below. One is not enough While just one subwoofer is enough to enjoy movie sound in 5. While low frequencies are less directional, and the direction of a low-frequency sine-wave point-source may be less perceptible, critical to fine music reproduction are low-frequency interchannel phase differences present in true stereo recordings.
When reproduced properly with stereo subwoofers or two full-range speakers , these phase differences are critical to reproducing the sound space of the original concert hall.
No sound system is complete without great bass. Luckily, with its 10” (mm) polycellulose woofer and watts of dynamic punch, the JBL Arena SUB P delivers tight, extended bass like a pro.
January 24, We are always preaching the more subs the better in a home theater system particularly two to four for a variety of reasons such as; smoother bass response across a wider listening area and increased dynamic range. So now that you’ve decided to purchase two or four subs, its time to show you how to connect them up properly to ensure you achieve the maximum benefits of a multi sub system.
This article has been recently updated to incorporate two YouTube video discussions – 1. How to Connect Multi-Sub. Why Have Multiple Subwoofers? Before reading this article, the reader is advised to check out our recently added YouTube video discussion on this subject matter to understand the benefits of using multiple subwoofers in a home theater environment.
Choosing your subwoofers We get a lot of questions about what types of subs to purchase for a multiple sub setup. Implementing an inferior subwoofer with a good one will limit your systems dynamic range and bandwidth to the weaker sub making your ears focus on the one that is breaking up and running out of steam. Mixing different subs will also reduce the success of canceling out room resonances since they will exhibit different amplitude and phase responses.
Always select two well designed subwoofers preferably the same that are each in their own capable of filling your theater room with ample bass without bottoming out or running out of gas. IF you absolutely must use mismatched subs, it’s important to try to chose models with a similar low frequency roll off slope. If you hook them up you get a lousy sound cos the gigga bites in each dont get no where. You the bass is wicked but does not last for long cos the subs create holes so obviously the subs do not work and you have to fork out more so just dont be stupid and do that to your
May 4th, Got a pimple, spray some Windex on it. Got a sore throat, swish some vinegar and honey. Eat some chicken soup. Home remedies, some are good, others are a mixed bag at best. I spent years conjuring up home remedies or tricks for properly calibrating multiple subwoofer theater rooms. In a perfectly rectangular room with the ability to place identical subs in the ideal locations around the room, this isn’t such a daunting task. This is especially true since you can use room mode calculators to help determine the best subwoofer locations before actually placing them in a real room.
But what about real world scenarios of people that don’t have ideal rectangular rooms? I suggest if at all possible to select a rectangular room for your theater room. In rectangular rooms, bass reproduction is more predictable, making it virtually an exact science when choosing the ideal subwoofer locations and doing room analysis.
This greatly minimizes trial and error, allowing for a more scientific and methodical approach.

What’s the best way to hook up 2 Hifonics hdl12d4 subwoofers to a mono amp Ok, your post has two different models listed. Let’s start with something you need to know about your amplifier. Is it one ohm or two ohm stable.
The subwoofer is an excellent add-on component to any stereo system. It provides the deep bass that most speakers lack and enhances both music and movie soundtracks. Whether you have a powered or passive sub, you’ll need to get it connected to your amplifier for it to work.
You cannot have too much subwoofer. A bigger subwoofer from the same manufacturer will always play lower, has lower distortion, more headroom, and better long term reliability if played at the same listening level. Hence, if budget is not an issue, going for the larger sub will always be beneficial, if there is no WAF or physical limitations. We have suggested room sizes that each subwoofer is recommended for. This of course is a very rough guide. Very much depends on individual tastes.
We have customers who find four VTF H in a 1, cu. We also have customers who are happy with a STF-1 in a 5, cu. Hence we suggest going with the biggest subwoofer that your budget, spouse and space allows. We frequently get questions ‘is this subwoofer too powerful or too loud for my room?

So what will we need to do this? But I doubt any of you guys will be using an amp that big. Walmart sells amplifier kits as do some other stores. The kits tell you how many watts they can handle. Add Tip Ask Question Step 2: Choosing an Amp and Speaker This can be a tricky step. You want to choose a speaker and amp that put out the most power, without blowing each other. What you want is the RMS of both the subwoofer speaker and the amplifier to be as close as possible.
The RMS is the amount of power a speaker can continuously have sent to it without going bad. The RMS is also the amount of power the amplifier can continuously put out without over heating. When looking at speakers and amplifiers, do not look at the peak power. A speaker or amp can only be run on the peak power for about a minute before it goes bad or overheats.
You want to be running your subwoofers on its RMS rating rather than the peak rating.
